Whakamātūtū - A place of recovery

Mental illness is a tragedy in our society and most of us know people who have succumbed to its ravages.

We were delighted to contribute fabric to the Wellington Depression Recovery Centre, or Whakamatutu, a new facility set up by Brent Williams who has been open about his past struggles with depression and has created this treatment center based on the Heiligenfeld centers in Germany, to help those struggling.

Hugh Tennent (Tennent Brown Architects) approached Maxwell Rodgers to contribute fabric as part of a wider industry involvement (Kadima Furniture and Wools of New Zealand were also a part of the fit out).

In Brent's own words:

"In the chaos of opening in less than ideal circumstances I am not sure if I ever let you, Roger know how beautiful your fabrics are looking on all our wonderful chairs and sofas. The range of colours has worked very well with everyone liking different ones! When people enter the floor they universally comment on the special character and ambience of the space. This is thanks to Hugh’s design, your furniture Matt, and your fabrics Roger, and also the flooring (wools of NZ). These tactile elements really make a difference to people’s recoveries. Thank you so much"
